Combined PTLLS and First Aid Instructors

This course is designed to enable the successful candidate to train and assess Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved First Aid courses. PTLLS/6302 is the starting point for anyone involved in the delivery of learning, the course is part of the National Qualifications Framework and is set at Level 3. This combined with the First Aid Instructors (FAI) course provides the necessary training qualifications to deliver First Aid training within the workplace. The course is in line with the current First Aid Approvals and Monitoring Section, of the HSE, guidelines.

What are the course outcomes?

This programme is designed to enable delegates to:

- Adopt an integrative approach to the theory and practice of teaching and training.
- Reflect on their own previous/current levels of experience, practice and skills, and potential for development.
- Build up knowledge of principles of learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation.
- Develop their own communication and interpersonal skills.
- Develop an awareness of their professional role, the essential value systems which underpin it and the legal requirements for carrying out that role.
- In addition students will receive training and advice in delivering and assessing First Aid courses.

On successful completion students will be qualified to train and assess First Aid courses for HSE Registered companies. In addition they will be able to run courses such as Emergency First Aid-that don’t at present require HSE approval without any external help. It is important to understand that it is the “company” and not the “individual” that holds HSE approval-there is no such thing as a “HSE Approved First Aid Instructor”.

Under current HSE guidance those training First Aid at Work must meet, as a minimum, the following criteria:

- Current, in-date FAW certificate-unless a Registered General Nurse, Doctor or State Registered Paramedic
- Training qualification and/or experience
- Background in first aid within the workplace

What are the entry requirements?
There is no "hands-on" first aid taught on this course-candidates must have a strong first aid/medical background before considering this course. Candidates wishing to use the course to train HSE approved First Aid at Work (FAW) courses must be in possession of a valid FAW certificate, or equivalent unless exempt , at the start of the course. Those who don't meet this criteria should consider the combined First Aid and AED Instructors course.

There is a considerable amount of written work to be completed. This will involve reading of supplied reference books, researching specific topics, applying theory to practical scenarios and demonstrating knowledge and understanding through written work. Therefore, candidates for this course should have a good standard of written and verbal communications skills.

How long is the course?
The combined course is run as six straight days with evening work as well.

How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed by completing a series of assignments, and the delivery of four micro-teaching sessions.

How much does it cost?
Recently reduced to £645 per person + vat. This covers certification, manuals and tea/coffee. In addition all students receive an Emergency First Aid Instructors pack that includes all that is needed to train one-day courses. If just the FAI element is required the cost is £250 + vat, this day is limited to 4 delegates per trainer.

This course is approved by the MOD in support of the ELC scheme.

The cost of this course is £5000 + VAT for up to 10 students when run at your venue. This includes certification and comprehensive manuals for each student.
