New Assessors Award – Frequently Asked Questions.
I already hold A1/A2 or D32/33 do I need to upgrade to these new qualifications?
No, if you hold A1/A2 or even D32/33 these qualifications are still valid and you would not have to do the new ones unless they have “lapsed” due to a lack of professional development on your part.
I could not do A1 before because my candidates were not enrolled on an NVQ – has that changed?
Yes – you need still two learners but neither have to be enrolled on an NVQ.
What can I assess with the new Assessors qualifications?
In simple terms you can assess anything that you are “occupationally competent” in. The standards for the particular qualification that you wish to assess will provide you with more guidance on this.
If I’m assessed with learners doing a certain subject/course and then I move into a new field is the award still valid?
Yes, absolutely the qualifications are totally generic and transferable and can be used to assess across a full range of activities, as long as you are assessing within your field of competency.
The induction seems fairly short?
Initially you would do a three day “induction” course before moving on to start building your portfolio and assessing your candidates. If all goes to plan we would then come out to you to assess you with one of your learners before you return to us to finish of the paperwork. The time frame for completion of the course is largely down to the candidate – in reality it may take several months to achieve these qualifications.
How long is the qualification valid for?
As with most of these qualifications it is valid for as long as you can prove professional development and that you are actively using it. This is normally evidenced by the use of a Professional Development Portfolio.
