This guide to fire risk assessment in the workplace provides guidelines on best practice, common and unusual causes of fires, and training and certificate requirements for your business.
As an employer, owner, occupier or hirer (also known as responsible person), you are legally required to carry out regular and up to date risk assessments in the workplace.
Fires need three ingredients to start and your assessment should identify the potential of these to occur in the workplace:
When assessing the property, make a note or use a checklist to document all the potential risks you find and whether you will be able to avoid or control the fire.
For each one, you should pinpoint who will be in danger, how you can protect them now, and how you will protect them during a fire.
Based on your findings, introduce appropriate measures that will tackle the problem whilst minimising potential injuries.
This could include removing the sources of risk from the building or moving it to a safer location. For example, glass jars or containers should be kept away from windows.
Review the equipment available for both detection and prevention.
The safety of your employees is important and complying with these rules is essential. That is why we offer to complete a fire risk assessment of your business premises and educate you and your employees on fire safety.
Our expert consultants will visit your premises and draw up a detailed assessment which will enable us to provide you with actions to take in order to prevent an accident.

There are a range of causes of blazes in the workplace, with some of the most common being:
However, as important as it is to know the most common causes, it is also essential that you are aware of unusual causes.
Though these may not sound as likely as others, that doesn’t mean your business should exclude them from your risk assessment.
Trusting that the correct protocol is followed and each member of staff is educated with the correct level of fire training, both common causes and unusual causes can easily be prevented.
We offer a range of in house training courses to suit your business’s needs:
Soho House Group
We have been using aid training for first aid and fire warden training for about 4 years now, I was introduced to them a few years ago when I attended a first aid course with a previous company I worked for. Back then my course was delivered in such an enthusiastic and professional way from trainers whom have actually ‘been there, done that’ whether that be paramedics or ex service’s with real life experience. The training methods have not changed to this day. Training is not done from a text book but delivered in a casual but informative way using life and on the job experiences engaging candidates to gain information on their own experiences. Now, in my capacity as a health & safety manger for a group of restaurants, hotels and clubs it is my responsibility to ensure staff receive the best training possible which is why I’m still using Aid Training today. I regularly get feedback from staff regarding the training they have received and these two courses always get very enthusiastic responses.
